Mrs Peel – We’re needed!

It goes without saying, I am a huge fan of The Avengers…

…the 1960s UK Spy-Fi TV show. With its uniquely British blend of quirk and kitsch, the show captured the super-cool sixties and wrapped them up in bizarre espionage plots, tongue-in-cheek humour, and a cavalcade of diabolical masterminds.

When StudioCanal digitally restored and released every available episode in DVD box sets, amongst the special features were the original scripts and press releases, giving a fascinating insight into the writing process.

This started me thinking…

What if there was a long-lost episode missing from them?

What if I were to write this episode?

And what if I were to imagine it was real, with press biographies of the fake actors in the fake episode that was supposedly filmed in 1968 but never seen?

Crazy idea, I thought. As crazy as the original show itself. I’ll do it.

I hope you enjoy this episode that never was.

THE AVENGERS famously recycled props, sets and actors. Similarly, “A DEADLY INVITATION” contains a few re-used props and locations from actual episodes. Fellow fans may have fun spotting them. If you’re not a fan, this is all very self-indulgent, isn’t it?

Please read the following message before reading the script.

Important! Top Secret Disclaimer:
‘A DEADLY INVITATION’, its associated press releases, and biographies, comprise a needlessly elaborate work of fan fiction. It uses characters (John Steed and Mrs. Emma Peel) and settings from THE AVENGERS world, which are trademarked by StudioCanal. I do not claim to have ownership over these characters or the world of THE AVENGERS. I recommend you buy the box sets if you want to see how much fun the original show was. All other characters are purely fictitious (especially the fictional ones) and no resemblance to any real persons either living or dead is intended.

Whilst designed to look aged and of the period, ‘A DEADLY INVITATION’, its associated press releases, and biographies are for entertainment purposes only and do not claim to be official or authentic in any way. No copyright infringement is intended. That simply wouldn’t do.
